Juha Törmälä is a Helsinki-based photographer and artist specializing in portraits of people for advertising, marketing, and corporate communications. He works out of his studio at the Cable Factory in Helsinki, and is available for portrait commissions.

His work is distinguished by timeless portraits in which subjects carry a strong, graceful presence. In 2015, Juha held his first solo exhibition, Twelve Men, and that same year was named Magazine Photographer of the Year at Edit, Finland's leading media industry competition.

With a background in magazines and journalism, Juha is best known for his portrait work in Finland's top publications, and his images have appeared in most major Finnish magazines.

Juha's fascination with light and portraiture began at an early age. He studied at the Free Art School in Helsinki before pursuing photography, where he distinguished himself through black-and-white portrait work and developed a specialization in magazine photography. After several years as a staff photographer at a newspaper, he founded his own company and has worked as an independent photographer ever since. In 2014, he co-founded Quiet, a portrait studio in Helsinki, together with his wife, photographer Outi Törmälä.

Juha regularly teaches and leads workshops on portraiture. Drawing inspiration from classic American portrait photographers, he counts Irving Penn, Richard Avedon, and Annie Leibovitz among his major influences.

In his free time, Juha draws and paints. He is currently at work on a landscape series depicting the suburban scenery around Helsinki.
